Carbon Steel Types Applications

  Low carbon: This type has a lower strength and hardness, in contrast, has high toughness and ductility (deformation capacity). It is not normally heat treated and therefore has a lower cost. Low carbon steel sheets, for example, are used in the automotive sector, structural profiles, pipe production, construction and bridges;

  Medium carbon: compared to the previous one, the medium has more strength and hardness, however, its toughness and ductility are lower. Because of the amount of carbon used, it allows steel sheets to receive heat treatment and tempering. These plates are applied to wheels and rail equipment, gears and other machine parts;

  High carbon: the toughest type, but with the lowest ductility between models. They are generally used in tempered or tempered formats. You find these plates in chisels, hacksaw blades, hammers, knives, among others.
