Galvanized Pipe Production Process

Zinc is a common metal element with good corrosion resistance. Therefore, zinc is widely used in anti-corrosion treatment in many industries. Among them, the galvanized pipe (GI Pipe) with zinc as the main material is a common and popular product with a wide range of applications.

The production of galvanized pipes requires the use of steel pipes (such as ms seamless pipes) as the base material. Coating a layer of zinc on the surface of the steel pipe can effectively prevent the steel pipe from being oxidized and corroded. Therefore, the production process of galvanized pipe is mainly divided into the following steps:

1. Pretreatment of steel pipe

Before steel pipes are galvanized, they need to be pretreated. First, clean the oil and impurities on the surface of the steel pipe to ensure that the zinc layer can be firmly attached to the surface of the steel pipe. Secondly, the steel pipe is pickled to remove oxides and rust on the surface.

2. Galvanized

After the steel pipe surface is pretreated, it can be galvanized. There are two methods of galvanizing: hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing is to immerse the steel pipe in molten zinc, so that the zinc reacts with the surface of the steel pipe to form a layer of zinc. Electrogalvanizing is to immerse the steel pipe in the electrolyte solution containing zinc ions, and the zinc ions are reduced to a zinc layer on the surface of the steel pipe by the action of electric current.

3. Inspection

After the galvanizing is completed, the steel pipe needs to be inspected. Mainly check whether the zinc layer on the surface of the steel pipe is uniform, whether there are defects and bubbles, etc. If there is a problem, it needs to be repaired or re-galvanized.

4. Packaging

Pack the galvanized steel pipes. It is usually packed in plastic bags or cartons to protect the zinc layer on the surface of the steel pipe from damage. The production process of galvanized pipe needs to go through multiple steps, including pretreatment of steel pipe, galvanizing, inspection and packaging. Through these steps, galvanized pipe products with good quality and good anti-corrosion performance can be produced.

Advantages of galvanized pipe:

1) Low processing fee

Galvanized pipe anti-rust cost is lower than other paint coatings;

2) Durable

In the suburban environment, the anti-rust thickness of the standard galvanized steel pipe can be maintained for more than 50 years without repair; in urban or offshore areas, the standard anti-rust layer of the galvanized pipe can be maintained for 20 years without repair;

3) Strong coating toughness

The galvanized layer forms a special metallurgical structure, which can withstand mechanical damage during transportation and use;

4) Good reliability

The galvanized layer forms a metallurgical bond with the steel and becomes a part of the steel surface, and the durability of the coating is more reliable;

5) Comprehensive protection

Every part of the electroplated parts can be galvanized, even the depressions, sharp corners and hidden places can be fully protected;

6) Low initial cost

In general, the cost of galvanized pipe is lower than that of applying other protective coatings, mainly because the process of galvanized pipe is more mechanized and more efficient;

7) Save time and effort

The galvanizing process is faster than other coating application methods and can avoid the time required to paint on site after installation;

8) Checking is simple and convenient

The galvanized layer can be detected by visual inspection and simple non-destructive coating thickness gauge, which is convenient for inspection.
